JOURNEY INTO A RELAXED BODY

What is Peter Hess Sound Massage?

It is essentially a Massage using Sound Vibration. During the session, you lie on massage table and Peter Hess Therapy bowls are placed on and around your body. As a practitioner, I would then play the instruments as they are placed on your fully clothed body.

The bowls and instruments come in different sizes and each produces different sound and frequency range. As you listen to the harmonious sounds of the singing bowls and other instruments during the massage, the vibrations emitted from the instruments, penetrates deeply into the cells and tissues of the body, creating a form of massage at a cellular level. The vibrations also entrains the brainwave pattern, balancing the left and right brain hemisphere.

Slowly, your mind will start to quieten, while your body absorbs the subtle vibrations and starts to loosen and soften from stored/stuck tension.

The therapy is rooted in harnessing the power of sound as a tool to align the body’s vibrational energy back into balance thereby reinforcing your own body’s capacity to heal itself.

Peter Hess is a German engineer and vocational school teacher who has spent years travelling and researching the power of sound and its effects on health & wellbeing. He pioneered this incredible relaxation technique that combines ancient traditions with up-to-date findings from psychology and neuroscience.

The holistic effects of Peter Hess Sound Massage has been researched and developed over the past 40 years. It is deeply grounded in the philosophy of Salutogenesis, Coherence and Resilience.

“We always start from the healthy. We strengthen what is healthy.” - Peter Hess

The Benefits of Sound Massage

Deep Physical Relaxation

As sound travels through the body, it helps release tension and soften areas of holding. Many people experience a sense of lightness, ease and renewed vitality.

Sound massage may:

  • Encourage deep physical relaxation

  • Ease tension in muscles, joints, fascia and connective tissue

  • Support blood circulation, lymphatic flow and energetic balance

  • Help regulate blood pressure and calm the nervous system

  • Ease headaches, physical pain/discomfort and tinnitus

  • Improvement in sleep quality

  • Stimulates metabolism and digestion

Mental & Emotional Wellbeing

In a world that moves quickly, sound massage offers a rare opportunity to slow down and reconnect inwardly. The gentle rhythms support the nervous system in shifting from stress into rest. Many describes the experience as both deeply calming and quietly transformative.

Benefits may include:

  • Relief stress, anxiety and nervous tension

  • Support when managing burnout from stress

  • Strengthen resilience and inner calm

  • Improved focus, mental clarity and body awareness

  • Promotes synchronisation between the left and right brain hemispheres

Precautions

Sound massages are NOT recommended if you:

  • have sound-induced epilepsy

  • are in your first trimester of pregnancy

  • have unmanaged severe neurological/mental condition ( medical approval by treating professionals required if want to attend )

  • have a pace-maker

  • have recently had undergone surgical procedure or intensive medical treatment

Fascia Focused Therapy

Fascia is a continuous network of soft, collagenous connective tissue that envelops and interconnects muscles, bones, organs and nerves throughout the body. It plays a key role in:

  • postural support

  • force transmission (the process of mechanical communication within our body)

  • movement coordination

  • stress responsiveness

  • communication with the nervous system

When fascia becomes dehydrated, compressed or stuck in protective holding patterns, the body may experience persistent tightness, restricted breathing, postural imbalance, fatigue, emotional heaviness and a sense of constant bracing/holding on.

Fascia cannot be trained like muscles do, nor do they respond to force.

With 250 million nerve endings, the fascial system is deeply connected to our nervous system. When the body perceive stress and danger, the fascia tighten in a holding position. When the body perceives safety, the fascia softens.

During this treatment, the soothing sound of therapy-grade Singing Bowls work on the fascial system through vibration, not through forced pressure.

By targeting the myofascial meridians, sound helps to:

  • release tension

  • improve fluid flow

  • restore balance & body alignment

  • enhance body awareness

  • reduce stiffness

The vibrations activate receptors in the fascia and allow the fascia to rehydrate and regain its elasticity by releasing protective holding patterns and reorganising itself into a more balanced way.

Clients report feeling lighter, more at ease, breathing more easily, improved posture and deeply refreshed.

Possible Response Post Sound Massage

You may from time to time experience a response to Sound Massage that may be uncomfortable.

It is natural to be concerned when you feel worse after the Sound Massage when you were expecting to feel better. You may experience things like headaches, cramps or nausea or feel more emotional, teary, angry or down.

Some call these shifts “homeopathic aggravation” or “healing crisis” which can sound alarming but in fact is the result of shifting and moving of energy, frequency and vibration within the body. The process might feel uncomfortable for a short period of time.

This may include:

  • emotional releases e.g. anger, sadness

  • digestive upsets

  • cold/flu like symptoms

  • headache

  • nausea

  • hot flushes

  • tiredness

  • feeling of heaviness
